Prepare for Ontario G1 knowledge test in Ontario

Build a study plan for Ontario G1 knowledge test using official Ontario material, targeted practice and a review of your uncertain answers.

A study cycle you can repeat

Begin with the current official learning material. Divide study by subject rather than repeatedly taking a large mixed test: signs, right of way, road position, speed choice and sharing the road each deserve focused attention. Use drawings or examples to explain why a rule produces a safe decision.

After each chapter, choose a relevant practice group and review every uncertain answer. Revisit the official passage, explain the rule without looking at the options and try another group later. Keep test-day preparation separate: check official identification, service and appointment instructions. Practice completion is a learning signal, not an official qualification.

Choose G1 application or licence exchange

Ontario’s first-time route and its out-of-province exchange route are different applications. Start with the route matching your residence and existing licence. The G1 application includes knowledge and vision requirements; do not use a G2 road-test calendar as the way to arrange a first knowledge test.

Prepare original identification for the service

Use DriveTest’s current acceptable-document list and the selected service’s instructions to prepare your visit. Resolve name differences or translation needs before travelling. Check the current residence declarations, service location and payment arrangements on the official pages; a successful practice session does not satisfy administrative requirements.

Study rules and signs, then review mistakes

Use the MTO handbook for Ontario signs, intersections, road sharing and licence conditions. Keep a list of rules behind missed questions instead of memorising answer order. DrivePreKit’s car practice catalogue can support that study, while the handbook and licensing authority remain the references for official requirements.
