A study cycle you can repeat

Begin with the current official learning material. Divide study by subject rather than repeatedly taking a large mixed test: signs, right of way, road position, speed choice and sharing the road each deserve focused attention. Use drawings or examples to explain why a rule produces a safe decision.

After each chapter, choose a relevant practice group and review every uncertain answer. Revisit the official passage, explain the rule without looking at the options and try another group later. Keep test-day preparation separate: check official identification, service and appointment instructions. Practice completion is a learning signal, not an official qualification.

Start with the learner route that fits your application

ICBC’s Get your L page links the online knowledge test and office services. Check the identity, consent and test conditions for the option you intend to use before starting. Complete the remaining licensing steps after a knowledge pass; a test result by itself is not permission to drive.

Keep learner and novice transitions separate

The announced graduated-licensing change concerns eligible novice upgrades and has an effective date of 19 October 2026. It should not be interpreted as removing the learner knowledge test or first road test. Check ICBC’s dedicated change page and any personal instructions for your actual licence stage.

Study with Learn to Drive Smart

Use ICBC’s handbook to connect signs and road rules with observation and space decisions. After car practice, review a missed topic in the handbook and explain how it changes a driving decision. Arrange language or accessibility support with ICBC directly; a study translation does not establish an official test language.
